Historical picture. This wall is one of the remaining sections of the wall built around the city of Notsie. At one point, a wicked king named Agokoli ruled the Ewe with an iron fist and constructed a massive wall around his kingdom so nobody could enter (and no one could leave). He very much maltreated the Ewe and even ended up killing many of the elders. But one elder survived and came up with an escape plan. At night, while playing drums and making music, some youth would secretly wet the walls and pound it to make an opening. The guards would not hear the sound as they would mistake it for drumming. Once open, the people fled and walked backwards to fool anybody who tried to follow their footsteps. The escapees fled in three different directions and they became the three main groups of Ewe people in present day Ghana.
